Drought in Central Turkey created difficulties throughout the region. An attempt by our host village of Sahmuratli to alleviate their water shortages, by tapping into underground sources, led to an accident that caused the untimely death of two young men, one of whom had worked for the expedition over several seasons. This tragic incident in the village marred an otherwise happy and productive summer.
