A second three year phase of the Kerkenes Project is scheduled to begin in 1998. A combination of remote sensing, including geomagnetic mapping of the greater part of the city and experimentation with ground penetrating radar, and further selective test trenching will provide a comprehensive overview of the city. An electronic data base has been established and Geographic Information Systems software is being used as a powerful interpretative tool that will provide an understanding of the urban dynamics. It is fitting that the application of new technology at Kerkenes Dağ will propel the ancient city into the new millennium.
