Real Evidence:
Remote Sensing goes only so far for some... Excavation and material
evidence are called upon. Here too GIS provides tools for recording
and for extending interpretation. A group of smashed pottery vessels
was found on the floor of the Structure C in the 'Palace Complex'. The
remains were drawn 'in situ' before being lifted and all the spatial
information recorded for inclusion in a Geographical Information System.
Recovery and Restoration of Artefacts:
The pots themselves are dealt with by the expert conservator and restored
as much as is possible. Pieces or whole pots are carefully drawn and
photographed and this information too can be included in linked databases.
When a substantial corpus of material has been recovered, recorded and
the information included in GIS there will be undoubtedly a number of
studies and analysis that we will contemplate doing.
Digital Restoration:
Meanwhile the finds, such as this very large bowl, are illustrated with
a combination of drawings, photos and 3D reconstruction. Interested
parties can consult our publications and web page.
